Little Budworth – Years Gone By

We received some fabulous photos and memories from an ex-resident of the village who lived here in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Susan King (nee Kendal) was the daughter of Herbert Kendall and granddaughter of Walter Kendall, who both ran the Post Office in the village. Susan has fond memories of the village and remembers some of the residents, including John Parker and Peter Robinson. She used to live in the Meadowholme bungalow and left Little Budworth in 1964.

This photo was taken at a party held for the village school by the American military who were based at Oulton Park at the time. Susan is front row, 2nd from left (with finger in mouth). The gentleman seated, with a child on his knee, is Mr Evans, Headmaster of Oulton Park School, and his wife is the lady with glasses at the other end of the row. The girl on the left hand end of the fourth row may be Margaret Lloyd and the girl in front of her is possibly one of the Gregory family.

The following are a collection of postcards sent by Susan’s mother in the 1930s –

The following photo is believed to be from the 1960s –

And finally, a comparison of the village past and more recent. The map is believed to date from the 1890s.

A huge thank you to Susan for sending these through and we hope you enjoy walking down memory lane. If anyone else has any old photos or memories from the village in the past, please let us know so that we can share them with everyone else.
